There was great weeping and gnashing of teeth

It was a sad day in Mudville yesterday.  Mumbles, our Manchester Terrier mix, occupied herself upstairs for quite a while.  This is never a good thing.  Today it was a very bad thing.  Here is the evidence:

Megan, my 9 year old, discovered the damage to her green squid.  Sum total of damages: missing top part of head,  unstuffed, chewed on one leg.  Despite assurances that I could fix said damage, Megan still had a very heartfelt cry.  "Why?! Why?! Why?!"  Mumbles, quite smartly, had made herself scarce during the whole discovery and mourning phase.   It has taken me all day to come up with a recovery plan that doesn't involve knitting the squid again.  I made the mistake of describing my plan to Megan -- One should never start a sentence about a beloved stuffed animal with "First I'm going to cut off the top of its head." (No more weeping, but if a face could ever embody horror...it was hers.)  If if pick up the stitches and just knit up to a point, restuffing before sewing shut, I think green squid (Odd, it never had another name.) will just about be back to normal.  Oh, one of the legs needs replacing too but it is just an i-cord so.... I guess I'll cut off the old leg (more cutting off squid parts, yikes) and give it a new one.   Wish me luck!
